“Moon Bowl” Sacramento City Hall Art Project
The "Moon Bowl" Project at Sacramento City Hall involved demolition, excavation, concrete foundation, electrical and plumbing in preparation for the installation of a large metal sculpture by world-known sculptor, Archie Held of Marin County. The structure's large size required structural steel reinforcing beams in the parking basement. The sculptures are based on Indian baskets made by the tribe that was found to have used the site as a burial ground. The main sculpture is a "burden basket" standing 18 feet in height with water cascading down the sides and collecting into a reflection pool. Two smaller baskets are located at the east and west sides of the old City Hall.
