Unger Construction Wins Coveted Award for Construction Safety

posted on March 24th, 2014

Unger Construction Co. was recently honored with a prestigious first place award from the Associated General Contractors of America for excellence in construction safety in the 250,000 man-hour/building category. To even qualify as a finalist for this award, Unger had to win first place in the California state competition and then had to be selected out of dozens of top firms from around the country. The final judging took place at the AGCA Convention in Las Vegas earlier this month and involved a presentation by Safety Director, Dave Simpson and Vice President, Mike Mencarini followed by a rigorous examination from a panel of national safety experts. The results were announced, very dramatically, at the Willis Safety Awards Breakfast in front of over 600 distinguished attendees.

This is an award we had been pursuing for several years. Our second-place finish last year gave us encouragement that, with a few areas of improvement, we could reach the top rung. We are proud not only of the job Dave has done in raising our safety awareness and commitment, but also of every member of our staff for embracing safe practices as a way of life on all of our projects.
